EVENT MANGEMENT
A wild late-night party by the beach with your favorite band taking over the night is like a dream come true. Approaching the podium and giving your speech in front of thousands as you enlighten them about your breakthrough is inspirational. All these moments are made magical thanks to the person in the dark - the event manager.
What is Event Management?
Whether you’re looking at arranging your wedding party, seminar, lounge event, or even
birthday parties, event management is the tool that arranges these moments efficiently.
From planning to executing, event management takes care of everything from placing
the seats to booking your favorite singer. It’s that special sauce that makes a meal so
delicious without even giving it credit.
Event managers may also manage ceremonies and festivals and also supervise after
everything is ready to go. In addition, they are responsible for pre-organizing the event
and making sure it runs as planned.
Talent and Skills Required
It’s not easy becoming an event planner as there are lots of characteristics and skills
needed to manage the simplest things. You need skills like:
Time Management
Organizing and staying on schedule is crucial in maintaining the quality and punctuality
of your service. One false move can set you behind schedule, and you either need to
postpone the event or have it run on an error, which would leave you with very unhappy
clients and attendants.
Multi-Tasking
As much as chewing gum and walking simultaneously is considered multi-tasking, in
even management, this skill goes a long way. Staying focused and being able to
organize your thoughts while still managing and handling other matters at the same time is a daily task. It might seem simple to take over everything at the same time, but it
takes skilled and patient people to become successful event managers.
Public Relations & Connections
When we, as ordinary humans, require a tool, service, or even food, we surf the internet
looking for what we need. As event managers, it’s essential you have all the
connections and relations you can possibly have to make things appear in an instant.
PR can save the person a lot of time from searching online to find the right caterers to
handle the dining and waiting. As a matter of fact, this skill also helps hire the right staff members to serve the people at the event.
Responsibilities & Priorities
Event managers are responsible for many things as they are the key to making an event
successful. They are responsible for selecting the location of where the event will take
place, hiring staff and outside vendors, arranging entertainment, managing security,
providing necessary documentation and equipment, and much more.
Sometimes significant events require both event planners and event managers to work
hand in hand in organizing the event. Since most of the time, planning can be done by
event managers, it can be beneficial to have extra planners take charge and help out in
the planning process.
