Home Nursing and their Advantages

Home nursing is a cost-effective nursing specialty that offers multifaceted care to patients of all ages in the comfort of their own homes. Depending on the diagnosis of the patient, caregivers need to possess a well-rounded skill-set that enables them to provide spiritual, emotional, and physical support to their clients. This must be done professionally with a goal in mind of making the person feel safe in their home.
Home care services focus on the aged who need assistance to live independently; people who are managing chronic illnesses or recovering from a medical setback; those with special needs such as disability as well as children. In most cases, the condition of the patient determines the length and gravity of the care they receive.
Home care can be the conduit to achieving the desired quality of life. It can fast track the recovery process through providing a client with a sense of safety, security, and increased independence. In some cases, home care can ease management of an ongoing medical condition and help to avoid unnecessary hospitalization. Four categories of homecare include:
Personal care and Companionship
Personal care and Companionship is classified under non-medical care. To ensure independence and safety on a daily basis, caregivers assist with activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and household chores. Personal care and companionship does not need to be prescribed by a doctor. Depending on the client's needs, care can be provided on an ongoing basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including possible live-in care.
Private Duty Nursing Care
This type of care is also known as home-based skilled nursing. Caregivers under this category are professionals who provide home-based-care for adults with a chronic illness, injury, or disability. Private duty nursing needs to be prescribed by a physician, and is provided in shifts up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Home Healthcare
This is a short-term, physician-directed care designed to help a patient prevent or recover from an illness, injury, or hospital stay. It is a short-term form of care provided by specialized clinicians on an hour-by-hour basis until the patient's goals are met, and must be prescribed by a doctor.
Pediatric Home Health Care
Pediatric home health care is defined as offering therapy services to children in surroundings they are familiar with such as their home or school. The therapist administers to the child physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy enhancing the child’s physical, intellectual and speech faculties. This is often done in the presence of family for support, and together they observe the child in his or her everyday life.
In conclusion, patient's care is tailored to meet their individual needs. It may include services from one or more of the types described above. While the multiple types of home care may serve different needs, they share a common goal: to enable happier, more independent living for the people receiving care, and to provide support and peace of mind for their families.
